Comprehensive Waste Tracking System at Universitas Padjadjaran in 2024

waste tracking

In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran strengthened its sustainability efforts by implementing a comprehensive waste tracking system to monitor, record, and manage paper, plastic, and organic waste across all campuses. Through regular audits, digital reporting tools, and a dashboard that tracks waste data at every faculty, the university ensures accurate measurement of waste generation, reduction, and recycling performance. This system is integrated with the TPS 3R waste facility, Plasticpay reverse vending machines, and the B3 waste management application, enabling data based monitoring and evaluation. The approach allows Unpad to assess progress toward its waste reduction targets while improving operational efficiency and environmental accountability. By establishing a transparent and measurable waste tracking process, Unpad demonstrates a strong commitment to responsible resource management and continuous improvement toward a sustainable, low waste campus environment.

To further support this initiative, Unpad conducts regular waste tracking, capacity building activities and coordination meetings with waste management units across faculties to ensure uniform data input, consistent reporting practices, and timely follow up actions. These efforts help strengthen institutional awareness, align waste reduction practices across campuses, and promote a culture of environmental responsibility. Through collaboration and continuous improvement, Unpad ensures that waste tracking is not only a monitoring tool, but also a driver of behavioral change and sustainable campus operations.

Waste Tracking

To further support this initiative, Unpad utilizes Wisebin units across selected faculties to monitor user disposal behaviour through photo based validation, quantitative assessment of waste segregation quality, and automated scoring. Data generated from Wisebin, including waste composition, segregation accuracy, user performance, and bin level quality, is integrated into the faculty dashboard to provide clear insights into daily and monthly waste trends. This system helps identify gaps in waste sorting practices, strengthen awareness programs, and guide targeted interventions such as incentives, disincentives, and improved educational materials on each bin. Through consistent tracking and faculty level engagement supported by Wisebin technology, Unpad enhances transparency, strengthens accountability, and promotes better waste management practices across the entire campus.
