In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) advanced ecosystem and biodiversity education through a series of community-oriented and academic programs designed to strengthen environmental literacy. The Department of Biology led interactive activities such as educational visits to the Unpad Arboretum and public lectures on biodiversity and wildlife conservation, fostering greater understanding of Indonesia’s flora, fauna, and ecological balance. Complementing these, students from the Veterinary Medicine Study Program conducted workshops on sustainable livestock feed management to promote environmental responsibility in agricultural practices. Together, these initiatives reflect Unpad’s commitment to raising ecological awareness, encouraging scientific curiosity, and empowering communities to contribute to ecosystem conservation and sustainability.
Workshop on Sustainable Livestock Feed Management

Students from the Veterinary Medicine Study Program at Universitas Padjadjaran conducted an educational outreach activity in Cibiru Wetan Village, Bandung, on May 25, 2024. The program focused on improving community understanding of sustainable livestock nutrition and ecosystem balance by introducing silage fermentation techniques as a long-term feed solution. This initiative exemplifies Unpad’s commitment to offering educational programmes that connect animal health, agricultural ecosystems, and community-based environmental sustainability.

On November 12, 2024, the Department of Biology at Universitas Padjadjaran welcomed students from SD Salman Al Farisi for an educational visit to explore the Unpad Arboretum. Through guided nature walks and interactive learning, the students discovered various tropical plant species and their ecological and practical benefits, such as traditional medicine and natural dyes. The activity fostered early environmental awareness and encouraged young learners to appreciate and protect biodiversity as part of everyday life.

The Sarang EFI Educational Bee Farm and Nature Park at Universitas Padjadjaran provides an interactive learning experience that promotes biodiversity conservation and ecosystem understanding. Visitors, including students and local communities, can explore bee ecology through guided apiary tours, honey production workshops, and outdoor educational activities. The program highlights the vital role of pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and food security while promoting sustainable agriculture and local entrepreneurship. Through this initiative, Unpad integrates environmental education, community empowerment, and practical sustainability practices, fostering a deeper appreciation for nature and responsible ecosystem management
Unpad Biology Department Promotes Biodiversity Awareness through Public Lectures

The Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran regularly organizes public lectures and guest lectures that explore themes of biodiversity, ecosystem sustainability, and wildlife conservation. These educational activities aim to enhance public understanding of Indonesia’s rich natural heritage and the challenges it faces due to environmental change. For instance, in 2024 the department, in collaboration with the Center for Environment and Sustainability Science (CESS) and Rutgers University, held a lecture titled “Nutritional Ecology and Conservation: The Impact of Environmental Change in Indonesia on Primate Health and Survival.” Such initiatives demonstrate Unpad’s commitment to open knowledge-sharing and public engagement in the protection of flora, fauna, and ecosystems.
