The total Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions
The calculation of Universitas Padjadjaran’s carbon emissions follows the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Corporate Standard, focusing on Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions within the last 12 months. Scope 2 emissions are derived from electricity consumption, while Scope 1 emissions include direct emissions from university-operated transportation, specifically campus shuttle bus services.
Electricity-related emissions are calculated based on total annual electricity consumption (in kWh) multiplied by the applicable emission factor. Meanwhile, emissions from transportation are calculated using operational data from the Universitas Padjadjaran shuttle bus system, which serves as an internal mobility solution across the campus. The calculation considers the number of shuttle buses, daily trips, and the average travel distance within the campus area.
The inclusion of shuttle bus emissions reflects the university’s effort to account for direct fuel-based activities under institutional control, while also demonstrating a sustainable mobility initiative aimed at reducing the use of private vehicles on campus.
Through this approach, the total reported emissions represent a comprehensive and standardized measurement of the university’s operational carbon footprint in alignment with international GHG accounting practices.
