In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) demonstrated its leadership in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by fostering cross-sectoral dialogue and collaboration. Through partnerships with government agencies, academia, and development stakeholders, Unpad actively contributed to evidence-based discussions that promote sustainable and inclusive policy development.
Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) strengthened their academic collaboration through the International Mini Student Conference 2024, held on 24–26 June 2024, themed “Empowering Student Welfare for SDGs and Blue Economy.” The event, hosted by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) Unpad, reflected both universities’ commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through student engagement, research exchange, and collaborative dialogue. Unpad’s Dean of FPIK, Prof. Dr. Sc. agr. Yudi Nurul Ihsan, emphasized that the discussions explored how student welfare, cultural understanding, and environmental responsibility contribute to achieving the SDGs, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Meanwhile, UMS representative Thanussha Arumugam expressed optimism that this collaboration would foster professional growth and strengthen sustainability-oriented mindsets among students, reaffirming both institutions’ shared vision of empowering youth as active contributors to global sustainability and the Blue Economy.
Universitas Padjadjaran, through its SDGs Center, actively initiated and participated in a cross sectoral policy dialogue on sustainable industrial development and its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On April 4, 2024, the SDGs Center Unpad collaborated with the Directorate of Political, Public, and Regional Cooperation (Direktorat PPKKI) to hold a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Launch of the Study on the Identification of Potential Contributions of Indonesia’s Critical Mineral Downstreaming Policy” at the InterContinental Hotel, Bandung. The event brought together representatives from government institutions, academia, and development stakeholders to discuss the economic, social, and environmental implications of Indonesia’s downstreaming strategy in the context of the SDGs. Represented by Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf and Dr. Viktor Pirmana, Unpad presented research findings on “The Potential Benefits of Natural Resources Downstreaming Policies and Their Compatibility with the SDGs Agenda.” This academic–government dialogue facilitated the exchange of insights on policy coherence, sustainability frameworks, and adaptive recommendations to align industrial transformation with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Through this engagement, Universitas Padjadjaran reinforced its role as a catalyst for cross sectoral collaboration, promoting evidence-based policymaking and the integration of SDG principles into Indonesia’s economic policy discourse.
