In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) actively worked to maintain and enhance ecosystem biodiversity through various conservation and restoration initiatives involving students, alumni, and institutional partners. Tree-planting activities such as “Himpuni Plants 51 Trees,” “1,000 Saninten Tree Planting,” and “Planting Hope, Saving Earth” supported reforestation, habitat restoration, and awareness of endangered species protection. Meanwhile, the Unpad Veterinary Hospital contributed to promoting animal welfare through public health services, and the Center for Environmental Communication Studies led the rescue and handover of a protected Javan porcupine for rehabilitation. These initiatives demonstrate Unpad’s integrated commitment to safeguarding flora and fauna, restoring ecosystems, and advancing long-term environmental sustainability.

Unpad and Himpuni Plant 51 Trees to Support Environmental Sustainability

Universitas Padjadjaran, in collaboration with the Indonesian State University Alumni Association (Himpuni), organized a tree-planting activity at the Leuwi Padjadjaran retention pond area on the Jatinangor campus on January 14, 2024. A total of 51 fruit trees were planted, symbolizing the 51 Himpuni member institutions, as part of the organization’s annual meeting agenda. This initiative not only strengthened alumni collaboration across Indonesian universities but also supported Unpad’s ongoing environmental sustainability efforts and the preservation of the Leuwi Padjadjaran ecosystem.

Palawa Unpad Joins Saninten Tree Planting for Environmental Conservation in North Bandung

The Nature Lovers Unit (Palawa) of Universitas Padjadjaran participated in the 1,000 Saninten Tree Planting event organized by Pertamina Patra Niaga West Java Region on December 12, 2024. The initiative aimed to restore the population of the endangered Saninten tree, a protected endemic species in West Java, and to raise public awareness about conserving rare flora and maintaining forest ecosystems. Through this activity, Palawa Unpad reinforced its commitment to biodiversity preservation, carbon absorption, and sustainable forest conservation.

Unpad Supports Wildlife Conservation through the Rescue and Handover of a Javan Porcupine

Universitas Padjadjaran, through the Center for Environmental Communication Studies at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, demonstrated its commitment to biodiversity protection by handing over a Javan porcupine (Hystrix javanica), a nationally protected species, to the West Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA) on September 17, 2024. The porcupine, rescued from an urban area in Bandung, was transferred for rehabilitation and eventual release into its natural habitat to ensure its survival. This action underscores Unpad’s dedication to wildlife conservation, public awareness, and collaboration in preserving Indonesia’s ecological balance.

Unpad Veterinary Hospital Launches Public Animal Health Services

The Universitas Padjadjaran Veterinary Hospital officially opened its animal health services to the public with a free Health Check and Rabies Vaccination event held on August 31, 2024, in Jatinangor. As an educational hospital for veterinary students, this initiative aims to provide hands-on learning while serving the local community through comprehensive veterinary care, including general checkups, vaccinations, blood tests, imaging, and surgery. By promoting animal health awareness, Unpad seeks to strengthen the connection between animal and human well-being and foster responsible pet ownership among the public.
