Universitas Padjadjaran actively engages in projects aimed at recording and preserving intangible cultural heritage, including local folklore, traditions, language, and traditional knowledge. Through research initiatives, collaborations with local communities, and cultural documentation efforts, Unpad contributes to the safeguarding of these important aspects of cultural identity.

Unpad has a research centre that focuses on Sundanese culture and history. This centre is vital in researching various aspects of Sundanese cultures, such as traditions, customs, oral literature, and performing arts. Universitas Padjadjaran, through the Center for Digitalization and Development of Sundanese Culture (PDPBS), contributes to the preservation of Sundanese culture by collecting various historical archives and digitizing them into digital format.

SundaDigi is a digital cultural preservation initiative developed by the Center for Digitalization and Development of Sundanese Culture (PDP-BS) at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) under the leadership of Professor Ganjar Kurnia. The platform was created to honor and sustain Sundanese culture while strengthening the university’s role in promoting local heritage on an international scale. In line with Law No. 5 of 2017 on the advancement of culture and Unpad’s internal regulations, SundaDigi serves as a strategic effort to protect, develop, and revitalize cultural elements that are at risk of being lost or forgotten.

Developed in collaboration with Pustaka Jaya, SundaDigi functions as a comprehensive digital archive and learning platform with 13 main features, including Tanya Pr Bahasa Sunda, language lessons, practical grammar, Sundanese figures, literary readings, fiksimini, magazines, cultural courses, traditional games (peperenian), dictionary, media dictionary, our body, and Sundanese script. Through these features, SundaDigi not only facilitates access to cultural knowledge but also encourages younger generations to learn, appreciate, and preserve Sundanese heritage in a modern, interactive way.

In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) actively contributed to recording and preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage through a variety of educational, research, and community engagement initiatives. Across its faculties, students and lecturers worked collaboratively to document, revitalize, and promote traditional arts, languages, and cultural practices.

In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) contributed to the preservation of Indonesia’s linguistic and literary heritage through an innovative initiative, the creation of a literary card game designed to strengthen Indonesian language literacy. Developed by Unpad students, this interactive game combines education and entertainment to make learning about literature more engaging for younger generations. The game introduces players to Indonesian literary works, vocabulary, and grammar through creative and competitive gameplay, fostering both appreciation and understanding of the national language. This initiative reflects Unpad’s commitment to recording, preserving, and revitalizing cultural and linguistic traditions by using modern, accessible tools that promote lifelong learning and cultural pride.

Through the Community Service (KKN) program, Unpad students organized a workshop to preserve the traditional musical instrument Songah in Sumedang, ensuring local knowledge and craftsmanship are passed on to younger generations. The university also supported research and discussions on the declining use of the Sundanese language within mixed families, emphasizing the importance of linguistic preservation. In addition, Fikom Unpad held the Festival Budaya 2024, celebrating Indonesia’s diverse cultures through performances and exhibitions, while PMM 4 Inbound students organized the Pesta Mahasiswa Nusantara, promoting interregional cultural exchange.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences conducted training for elementary school teachers on teaching the Sundanese language, helping to sustain regional linguistic traditions in education. Complementing these efforts, Unpad students developed a literary card game to strengthen Indonesian language literacy through play-based learning. Together, these initiatives demonstrate Unpad’s strong commitment to recording, preserving, and revitalizing Indonesia’s linguistic and cultural heritage through education, innovation, and community collaboration.
