In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran collaborated with the Bogor District Environmental Agency (DLH) in preparing the Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) for the Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR) of Ciawi. This collaboration was designed to ensure that sustainability principles were fully integrated into local spatial planning and future development policies. The process began with a series of socialization activities to inform stakeholders about the importance of KLHS, followed by the identification of relevant parties across government, academia, and community groups. A multi sector working group was then established to coordinate inputs, share data, and develop a comprehensive understanding of the region’s environmental challenges.
Within this framework, key sustainable development issues were formulated, including solid waste management, land conversion pressures, watershed protection, and increasing traffic congestion driven by rapid urban growth. Universitas Padjadjaran contributed academic expertise in environmental impact analysis, spatial diagnostics, and policy formulation to support evidence based decision making. The university’s involvement also ensured that the assessment incorporated broader sustainability perspectives such as climate resilience, inclusivity, and long term environmental carrying capacity.
The outcome of this collaboration strengthened environmentally responsible spatial planning in Ciawi by aligning local development priorities with sustainability objectives. It also supported the promotion of equitable access to infrastructure, improved living environments, and the development of livable and affordable housing for local communities. Through this joint effort, Unpad helped the local government establish a more holistic and future oriented roadmap for spatial governance.

Analysis of SDGs Interlinkages in KLHS of Sumedang Regency
Universitas Padjadjaran contributed to regional development planning through its active involvement in the Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) processes organized by the Environmental and Forestry Agency (DLHK) of Sumedang Regency in early 2024. The university participated in key stages of the KLHS for both the Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPD) and the Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD), including Public Consultation 2 on February 28, 2024, and the Kick-Off Meeting on March 6, 2024.
Represented by academic experts, Universitas Padjadjaran delivered analyses on SDG interlinkages, environmental carrying capacity, and midterm SDG progress, providing evidence-based inputs to strengthen the integration of sustainability principles within the KLHS framework. These contributions supported the local government in ensuring that development planning is environmentally sound, inclusive, and aligned with the 2030 Agenda. Through this engagement, Universitas Padjadjaran reinforced its role in advancing sustainable and evidence-based regional planning through the KLHS mechanism.
