In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) strengthened its collaboration with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to advance environmental education and climate adaptation. Through the Padjadjaran Green Innovation Summit (PGIS) 2024, Unpad worked with Greenpeace Indonesia, Plan International Indonesia, Greeneration Foundation, and Teens Go Green Indonesia to promote student-led, research-based innovations addressing climate change and waste management. Additionally, the Coastal Conservation Journey in Pangandaran, held with partners such as Garda Animalia and Yayasan Raksa Bintana, empowered coastal communities through marine conservation and climate resilience education. These collaborations bridge academia, NGOs, and local communities, fostering climate awareness, sustainable practices, and cross-sector partnerships aligned with SDG 13, SDG 14, and SDG 17.

Unpad Collaborates with NGOs to Advance Climate Adaptation and Sustainability through PGIS 2024

In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran demonstrated its strong commitment to environmental education and climate adaptation through the Padjadjaran Green Innovation Summit (PGIS) 2024 – Research Based Innovation. Organized by the Student Executive Board (BEM Kema Unpad) Department of Environment, the event represented a meaningful collaboration between academia and leading environmental NGOs, including Greenpeace Indonesia, Plan International Indonesia, Greeneration Foundation, and Teens Go Green Indonesia. Held on 30 October 2024 at Bale Santika, Jatinangor, PGIS 2024 served as a dynamic platform for students to explore innovative, research based solutions to pressing environmental issues such as waste management, climate change, and sustainable resource use. The activities included Forum Group Discussions, research presentations, and field visits to recycling and waste management facilities, allowing participants to directly observe and apply circular economy principles in real settings. By engaging students, NGOs, and professionals, the summit fostered cross sector collaboration, inspired youth led climate action, and reinforced Unpad’s role in advancing sustainability education and research.

Unpad and NGOs Empower Coastal Communities for Climate Resilience through Conservation Education

In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran advanced its efforts in climate adaptation and marine conservation through the Coastal Conservation Journey,” organized by the Student Association of Fisheries (HIMIKAN) and the Master of Marine Conservation Program. Held on November 23, 2024, at Batu Hiu Beach, Pangandaran, the program united students, conservationists, and local communities in collaboration with Garda Animalia, Yayasan Raksa Bintana, Alshad Ahmad, and Kelompok Cipta Asri Pantai Selatan. The initiative addressed the urgent issue of declining sea turtle populations and the wider impacts of overfishing, pollution, and habitat loss on coastal ecosystems. Participants engaged in various conservation and educational activities, including sea pandan planting, marine vegetation propagation, beach clean-up, and baby turtle release, aimed at enhancing shoreline resilience and marine biodiversity. By integrating education, community participation, and NGO collaboration, the program strengthened local capacity for climate adaptation and supported SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
