In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) strengthened education for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through outreach programs engaging both alumni and the wider community. The “Universitas Padjadjaran Menyapa Lampung” initiative, organized by the Unpad Alumni Association (Ika Unpad) Komda Lampung, promoted sustainability awareness and introduced green campus initiatives supported by the Unpad Endowment Fund. At the local level, Unpad facilitated sustainability discussions in Sumedang Regency and delivered education and recovery programs for communities affected by the Sumedang earthquake.

Education SDGs for Alumni

Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) promoted education for the SDGs in the wider community through the program Universitas Padjadjaran Menyapa Lampung, held on 15 November 2024 by the Unpad Alumni Association (Ika Unpad) Komda Lampung. The event featured a socialization session on SDGs implementation and introduced the Unpad Endowment Fund, which supports green campus initiatives such as solar power systems, recycling machines, and eco-learning spaces like the Arboretum and Ekoriparian Leuwi Padjadjaran. By involving alumni in sustainability awareness and environmental action, the program exemplifies Unpad’s outreach education for SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Education SDGs for Local Community

Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) contributed to advancing education for the SDGs within the local community through active participation in regional sustainability discussions in Sumedang Regency, where the university is located. In early 2024, Ahmad Komarulzaman, representing Unpad, participated in public consultation meetings organized by the Environmental and Forestry Agency (DLHK) of Sumedang Regency, including the Public Consultation 2 for the Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPD) KLHS on 28 February 2024 and the Kick-Off Meeting for the Regional Environmental Strategic Study (KLHS). Through these engagements, Unpad shared academic insights and promoted community-based understanding of sustainable regional planning, environmental protection, and climate resilience. This initiative exemplifies Unpad’s role in educating and empowering the local community to integrate sustainability principles into regional policy, directly supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Education SDGs for Displaced People

Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) strengthened its commitment to education for displaced people through a series of outreach and recovery programs following the Sumedang earthquake that struck on 31 December 2023 and 1 January 2024. In early 2024, Unpad, through the Center for Disaster Research, launched the “Donasi Unpad Peduli Sumedang” initiative, which provided not only financial and material aid but also on-site disaster mitigation education for affected residents in areas such as Tanjungmedar, Kotakulon, Margamekar, Sukajaya, Citengah, and Sumedang Utara. The educational outreach focused on helping survivors understand earthquake risks, reduce trauma, and strengthen community preparedness for future disasters.

In parallel, Unpad collaborated with the Biomedical Engineering Team from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) to deliver medical and psychosocial support for earthquake survivors living in temporary shelters. This joint effort combined health education, post-disaster sanitation guidance, and community resilience training to help displaced people adapt and recover sustainably. Together, these initiatives demonstrate Unpad’s holistic approach to integrating SDG education into disaster recovery, ensuring that affected communities receive both humanitarian aid and the knowledge to rebuild stronger and safer.
