Extension of Disposable Item Minimisation Policy to Outsourced Services and Canteen Management

Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) ensures that its policies on responsible consumption and disposable item reduction are fully implemented not only within the university but also across outsourced services and its supply chain. Collaborations with canteen operators and cleaning service providers are guided by strict sustainability standards, with regular communication and monitoring to ensure compliance with Unpad’s environmental policies.

This commitment is regulated under Rector Regulation Number 26 of 2022 on Canteen Management, which requires every canteen permit holder to adopt ethical and environmentally responsible practices. The regulation mandates that canteen managers:

  1. Select product raw materials, tools, and production processes that comply with halal and sustainability standards.

  2. Manage food ingredients efficiently to minimize food loss during preparation.

  3. Take responsibility for consumer food waste by sorting it into organic containers for composting or other organic waste processing at Unpad.

  4. Promote awareness by displaying environmental education posters to encourage consumers to reduce food waste.

  5. Replace single-use packaging with eco-friendly alternatives, such as using glass cups instead of plastic ones.

  6. Separate organic and inorganic waste from canteen operations to support recycling and composting programs.

Unpad also enforces this policy through continuous engagement with service providers, ensuring that cleaning and catering partners adhere to waste separation and plastic reduction measures. These efforts extend Unpad’s disposable policy beyond internal operations, creating a sustainable supply chain that aligns with the university’s Eco-Friendly Campus Program and the principles of SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
