Integration of Local Biodiversity in Campus Planning and Development at Universitas Padjadjaran

manajemen eco campus

Universitas Padjadjaran integrates local biodiversity into its planning and development processes as stated in the Rector Regulation on Eco Friendly Campus Management. Article 2 and Article 3 identify ecological balance as a core requirement for all development activities, including the protection of soil, water, flora, and fauna. These provisions ensure that biodiversity becomes a fundamental consideration in campus infrastructure planning.

Article 3 paragraph 2 point c further directs the university to manage ecological functions and ecosystem services by maintaining land, water, flora, and fauna. This requirement ensures that every construction project is evaluated for its ecological implications. Article 7 reinforces this approach by mandating that each campus block must maintain at least forty percent green open space and preserve the Campus Forest as an ecological conservation area.

Article 3 paragraph 2 point f requires that all new buildings apply the principles of green architecture, green building, and smart building. These principles help ensure harmony between construction activities and the surrounding natural environment, safeguarding local habitats and supporting long term ecological resilience. Together, these articles demonstrate that biodiversity protection is embedded within the regulatory framework that guides campus development.

In addition to its policy commitments, Universitas Padjadjaran strengthens the integration of biodiversity through collaborative initiatives. Bale Tatanen, as one of the university’s agricultural and environmental innovation platforms, regularly engages with industry partners to promote sustainable cultivation practices. One example is the visit from representatives of Chateraise, a leading bakery company from Japan, to explore potential collaboration with Unpad in August 2024. This visit, documented in the university’s official news portal, reflects Unpad’s broader effort to connect sustainable agricultural practices with educational, research, and industry networks.
