Programs Supporting Aquatic Stewardship and Ecosystem Conservation in 2024

In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran advanced good aquatic stewardship practices through the handover of 10 inflatable lifejackets from the “Sehat Untuk Nelayan Indonesia” (TUNA) research team to the Off-Campus Study Program at Unpad Pangandaran. This initiative was designed to enhance the safety, wellbeing, and preparedness of local fishing communities who depend on marine and freshwater ecosystems for their livelihoods. By providing essential safety equipment, the program not only supports healthier and more responsible fishing practices but also encourages long-term stewardship of aquatic environments by reducing risks and strengthening awareness of safe, sustainable resource use. The collaboration aligns with Unpad’s ongoing commitment to empower coastal and riverside communities through practical interventions, capacity building, and science-based support systems that promote the sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems.

In addition, these efforts are reinforced through community service programmes (KKN) and research activities that focus on aquatic ecosystem sustainability. Through KKN, students are directly involved in educating and assisting local communities on responsible fishing practices, environmental awareness, and resource conservation. Meanwhile, research conducted by Unpad supports data-driven approaches to improving fisheries management, water quality, and ecosystem resilience. Together, these integrated programmes demonstrate Unpad’s continuous commitment to developing and maintaining good aquatic stewardship practices through education, research, and community engagement.
