In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) strengthened its commitment to environmental education and sustainability through various learning and community programs. By integrating education, research, and outreach, Unpad promoted biodiversity awareness and environmental conservation, fostering a culture of sustainability among students and the broader community.

In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran strengthened its environmental education initiatives through the establishment of the Ekoriparian Leuwi Padjadjaran on the Jatinangor Campus. Officially inaugurated on July 9, 2024, by the Director General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Sigit Reliantoro, M.Sc., the project was developed in collaboration between the ministry and Unpad. The Ekoriparian serves as a model for transforming riverbank areas into clean, attractive, and educational green spaces managed by local communities. Beyond improving the environment, the area functions as a community education space, promoting awareness of river conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable living practices. According to Unpad’s Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendarmawan, M.Sc., the Ekoriparian reflects the university’s scientific vision of Bina Mulia Hukum dan Lingkungan Hidup and aims to instill environmental responsibility among both students and the surrounding community.

In 2024, students from SD Cendekia Muda Bandung visited the Department of Biology, Universitas Padjadjaran for an educational field trip exploring the university’s laboratories, greenhouse, arboretum, and Ekoriparian area. Guided by Drs. Joko Kusmoro, M.P. and biology students, the children learned directly about various plant and animal species, their ecological roles, and the importance of environmental conservation. The activity aimed to foster early environmental awareness and inspire a sense of curiosity and care for nature among young learners.

On November 12, 2024, the Department of Biology at Universitas Padjadjaran welcomed students from SD Salman Al Farisi for an educational visit designed to introduce the importance of environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation from an early age. Guided by Dr. Budi Irawan, S.Si., M.Si., and Drs. Joko Kusmoro, M.P., the students explored Unpad’s Arboretum, a green learning space dedicated to tropical plant collection and conservation. During the tour, students learned about various plants such as mahogany, cinnamon, turmeric, and indigofera, while discovering their ecological and practical benefits. Through observation, reflection, and interactive activities, the visit encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and a lasting awareness of nature conservation among young learners.
