In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) strengthened its sustainable commuting initiatives by developing a systematic process to reduce private vehicle use and encourage environmentally friendly mobility across campus. The university promotes walking, cycling, shared transport, and electric vehicle use through an integrated and continuously improved campus transport system. To enhance accessibility and efficiency, Unpad introduced the “Lacakaku” digital tracking feature, allowing users to monitor shuttle routes and schedules in real time via QR codes placed in key campus areas. This innovation supports time efficiency, convenience, and reduced carbon emissions from daily travel. Combined with routine maintenance, service optimization, and the expansion of low-emission transport infrastructure, Unpad’s sustainable commuting plan reflects its long-term commitment to achieving a low-carbon, inclusive, and eco-friendly campus mobility system.

Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) is committed to promoting more sustainable commuting options for its community. The university measures and sets targets to encourage the use of non-motorized transport (such as walking and cycling), as well as shared and public transport options like vanpools, carpools, shuttle buses, and public transportation. Universitas Padjadjaran has implemented sustainability practices by providing campus transportation with 20 shuttle units, 3 Damri buses, several bicycles and 500 electric vehicles. Based on campus shuttle usage data in 2023 (data up to August), there is data on the lowest rate and highest data on campus shuttle usage by passengers each month. The campus shuttles operationalized by Unpad are 11 units out of a total of 15 existing units, with the rest functioning as reserve units.

The average number of passengers using the Campus Shuttle is increasing every year. This reflects the increasing interest of the Unpad community in using the campus shuttle. This is accompanied by routine rejuvenation and maintenance of the campus shuttle to maintain passenger comfort. Unpad is committed to encouraging campus shuttles as public transportation which can reduce the use of private vehicles on campus. In order to digitize the transportation system in line with technological developments, Unpad has developed a campus transportation detection feature called “lacakaku” which can be used simply by scanning the QR code that has been distributed in several corners of the campus. This feature is able to access information on the location of campus shuttles that are currently operating so that it can increase the effectiveness of time predictions and economic efficiency for students, lecturers and academic staff to mobilize on campus. Apart from tracking the campus shuttle, the “lacakaku” feature is also used to track campus building plans, the “Jalatista” fountain and cafeteria.

Unpad Sets Sustainability Target: 283 Participants Cover 10 km through Duathlon to Promote Active and Eco-Friendly Commuting

In 2024, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) demonstrated its commitment to sustainable practices by promoting active and eco-friendly commuting through the organization of a duathlon competition at its Jatinangor campus. The event, which combined running and cycling, involved 283 participants from the university community and emphasized the theme “More Active People for a Healthier World.” By encouraging walking and cycling as part of daily activities, this initiative supports Unpad’s broader sustainability targets to reduce motorized transport use and foster a healthy, low-carbon campus lifestyle.
